I took my girls out to breakfast this weekend at Shari's. There was a table next to us of 6 middle-aged women, loudly laughing and sharing stories. A couple of them ogled Clara and Joy, laughed and said, "you can send that baby over here!" Then they started to tell stories about their families and friends... "Sara had a burglar in her shop!" "Oh no, what happened!?" And they were funny, too. When the waitress explained that the senior discount was for 55 and up, one woman said, "Well, Peggy, you're right there!" Peggy glared at her friend goodnaturedly and refused the discount.
It really made me appreciate my own group of girlfriends. We may not see each other often enough (what with kids, boyfriends, husbands, houses, jobs) but when we do get together, we always fall right into good conversations and lots of laughing. And we've been friends through marriages, births, divorces, failed relationships, bad jobs... Thank God for girlfriends.
