The Whatcom Museum brings a new exhibition to the ARCO Exhibits building, World of the Shipwright: From Wood to Fiberglass. This exhibition explores the golden years of boat and shipbuilding in the late 1800s through 1965, when Whatcom County had the reputation as home to some of the finest builders of watercraft in the Pacific Northwest. The exhibition will include a number of full scale vintage boats built in Whatcom County, including fiberglass boats built in the 1950s which lead to the partial demise of traditional wooden boat construction that dominated for centuries.
Check out the exhibit and participate in one of the many activities scheduled this summer in conjunction with the exhibit; many of them are free! For more information, call (360) 778-8930 or visit Whatcom Musuem.
