Handwriting Foundations

Anne Zucchi leads a “Handwriting Foundations” with a focus on improving printing skills. The workshop for parents and teachers follows the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. Zucchi shows how printing skills can be developed with the use of music, play dough, magnets, and wood pieces. Activities to develop fine motor skills and posture for writing will be introduced. The Teacher Guide for your level of interest is recommended for purchase either before or after the event (purchase at Launching Success). Fee is $12. Two STARS credits are available.
Tools for Success for Early Readers

Educator and conference speaker, Donna Starr, presents “Tools for Success for Early Readers” workshop for parents and teachers. Ms. Starr will share insights on how learning occurs with beginning readers and how to address reading confusion. This phonics and language arts discussion is directed toward early elementary children. Fee is $12 and 2 STARS credits are available.
Parenting with Love and Logic
Saturday, January 16, 1 to 3 PM
Parents taking this class will gain information and skills so they will better understand their children and their behaviors and feel more prepared to use effective communication and discipline techniques. Based on the highly acclaimed Love and Logic philosophy developed by Jim Fay and Foster Cline, this class explores methods of successful parenting. Participants learn specific, tangible skills of successful parenting, and a mind-set that allows parents to develop a loving relationship while setting limits and boundaries. Rose-Duckworth has 15 years experience teaching elementary and middle school and is an instructor at Western Washington University. The workshop fee is $15. Two STARS credits are available. Zoo-Phonics Workshop

Kristin Winder will be back, by popular demand, to lead participants in a "hands-on" comprehensive half day workshop. This workshop will enable you to effectively teach all aspects of language arts - based on phonemic awareness and phonics, taught kinesthetically and mnemonically. The principle of Zoo-phonics maximizes understanding, memory, utilization and transference to all areas of the reading, spelling and writing process in a playful and concrete manner. Math and Games for Early Elementary Students

Learning specialist and teacher, Donna Starr, presents a workshop for parents and teachers on using games for learning early mathematics. Her program, titled “Math and Games for Early Elementary Students” will introduce a variety of manipulatives that can be used by teachers to teach math to kindergarten and elementary students. Ms. Starr is an expert on how children learn and has been a part-time instructor in education at the university level. Fee $12, 2 STARS credits.
