Learning specialist and teacher, Donna Starr, presents a workshop for parents and teachers on using games for learning early mathematics. Her program, titled “Math and Games for Early Elementary Students” will introduce a variety of manipulatives that can be used by teachers to teach math to kindergarten and elementary students. Ms. Starr is an expert on how children learn and has been a part-time instructor in education at the university level. Fee $12, 2 STARS credits.

Handwriting Without Tears Foundations

Classroom teacher and handwriting tutor, Anne Zucchi, presents a workshop on handwriting instruction for young children. This seminar is designed for parents and teachers and follows the Handwriting Without Tears multi-sensory curriculum program. Zucchi addresses readiness foundations for printing skills using music, play dough, stamping, coloring and play. Registration is required and seminar fee is $12. Preschool directors can receive 2 STARS hours.

The instructor will introduce a number of fun games and exercises which can be used with groups or individuals to get math concepts and computation back on tract. Sing Into Learning
Thursday, April 15, 4 to 6 PM
Nationally known children’s songwriter, Nancy Stewart, will present a workshop for teachers and parents giving ideas for teaching early literacy through song. Participants will learn how to use lyrics and rhythm to set early phonics foundations. Also introduced are more than 15 simple songs to be used in circle and story times, techniques for adapting songs for different ages, and simple props and instruments to use with songs. Fee is $15; 2 STARS hours available. Reservations required.
